- Martin the tailor reminds me so much of my own dad and his own story. Both my parents are tailors, and my maternal grandfather owned his own tailor shop. Between the three of them, they’ve clothed generations of people, hundreds of people, maybe thousands, across three continents. Sloped shoulders, curved spines, protruding bellies — every body is perfect if you cut the fabric right. “There are no tailors anymore,” my dad tells me. To hear Martin echo his thoughts makes it feel like a poem.
- Angry journalists seem to need anonymity to rant. A climate of paranoia within a climate of paranoia.
- The Economist thinks coke costs too much in America.
- Not sure what the point of this hands-wringing mixtape is, but it would be far more interesting if there had been some cross-referencing of arrest rates and incarceration patterns. Crime has always been scattered; arrests and convictions much less so. Dig deeper! What crimes, anyway? And is the “ghetto” really a physical place? If you tear destroy the place, do you destroy the space? You already know what I think.
- So what’s good in Paris these days? No link, I want you to tell me. Ont-ils des pop-tarts?

So says the Dictionary of Caribbean English Usage: a no-where-ian is "an unkempt looking knockabout; a person of no fixed abode."

ROLLCALL
- woefully out of date

I’m reading the Atlantic article and wondering 2 things:
– again, it is so odd considering his stance on poorer urban dwellings – a/k/a “inner-city” – that my boy grew up in the Jacob Riis housing projects in the LES (irony in legacy), and
– actions without thought of consequences, like raid on the Agriprocessor Plant (http://www.ireport.com/docs/DOC-22605, or http://www.nytimes.com/2008/07/13/opinion/13sun2.html?_r=1&ref=opinion&oref=slogin) that left families broken and desperate, lead to a big mess that some politico will come and “clean” up and take credit as the savior.
If it’s all about legacy building then you gotta keep problems coming in order to take credit for the solutions. Just hope that the right people come behind you to steer your legacy in the direction you planned. Or you can end up with a housing project named after you.
And as for Paris, hamburgers and cheeseburgers as gourmet sliders are now le poop.
But get your money up ’cause a burger at Yannick Alleno’s Le Dali costs about 35 euros homie. (Michelin star be damned!)
